Etymology - photography

Graph from the Greek word graphos, meaning representation by means of lines i.e. drawing, painting, writing etc
Photography literally means painting with light.
In this exploration you will be creating your own make-shift studios for photographing objects. You will use desk lamps to illuminate, and diffusers and reflectors made from cardboard boxes to control the light. Then by exploring the manual controls on a camera you will explore how exposure can create a variety of different effects and atmospheres in your photography.
The aim of this Exploration is to introduce you to different ways of photographing objects and models but also how you can build your own studio at home for future use. As you go through Foundation and your degree course you will be photographing dozens of models so developing an understanding of the techniques involved and getting the most from both your models and camera is very important.
