brief:
Design Principles are concepts used by architects-designers to organise arrange and communicate structural and aesthetic elements
-FOCUS/EMPHASIS
-UNITY/HARMONY
-SCALE/PROPORTION
-VARIETY
In this studio session we are required to create mini cities based on these design elements in groups, using materials such as paper, cardboard and recycled materials. Each city is given a name based on these elements that we should be inspired by and use as an outline for each city. Then each group will combine these cities in a aesthetically pleasing way to create a 'Megablockolis'

-Rhythmania
-Harmonium

MINI project 1: BUilding blocks- Harmonium
Our groups city brief was Harmonium. The design principle of harmony and unity, means a structure that is aesthetically pleasing, a design that portrays pattern, consistency and in my opinion a piece of art that relays almost a seamless effect of perfection.
My idea was to create a structure created from the same origami piece, and turn it into a a mini utopian city. A utopian version of housing estates which all look very similar and all have the same design and layout.
My idea was to create a structure created from the same origami piece, and turn it into a a mini utopian city. A utopian version of housing estates which all look very similar and all have the same design and layout.
We began by using 'Chatter Boxes' or 'Fortune Tellers' to create this effect of harmony using monotone colours and experimenting with silver aswell as a centre piece. We created our Fortune Tellers and stapled them closed to give them more structure, then began to stick and staple them together in a structure while thinking about a consistent placement.
All of our structures had the same reoccurring pattern made up of black white and grey and then a random silver sometimes too. If I was to do this project again when placing them into a cohort to represent a city I would create streets of sorts to make the city come to life. Other than that I was extremely pleased with the outcome considering if was a very wide brief for this mini project. It gave us the chance to really experiment and explore what we could create.
Then we complied all of our cities together to create one large cityscape. We took photographs at a different angles for perspective. Once that was done I began editing my final photographs for this mini project 'BuildingBlocks' Below are my final outcomes for this project.
